Courses in Elementary School Curriculum

 

At least 5 courses (10 credits)

1.          Chinese Phonology and Speaking and General Mathematics are required courses.

2.          The courses that are taken should cover four out of the seven learning areas.

3.          If a student takes a required course of Teacher Education Program that is also a professional course required by his/her own department, the credit(s) will not be admitted for the program.

Courses in Education

 

At least 2 courses (4 credits)

All the courses are designed in accordance with “teachers’ professional ethics,” “12 year compulsory” and “5 ways of life.”

Courses in Pedagogy

 

At least 5 courses (10 credits)

 

Teaching Materials and Methods and Education Practicum

 

At least 5 courses (10 credits)

1.      Elementary Education Practicum, Teaching and Materials and Methods of Language: Mandarin and Teaching Materials and Methods in Elementary School Mathematics are all required courses, and those who fail in the prerequisite courses are blocked from enrollment.

2.      Students should take courses in teaching materials and methods that cover 4 different learning areas.

3.      Students of each class should be kept in a maximum of 40.

Elective Courses

1.      Education Issue is a required course.

2.      Statistical Methods in Education is the prerequisite course of Psychological and Educational Testing and Research Methods of Education

The courses (and credits) required in the Elementary Special Education Teacher Program are as follows:

1.      Courses in education: at least 10 credits.

2.      Courses in special education: at least 30 credits

I.           Professional courses in special education (for all students in the program): at least 10 credits

II.        Professional courses for different specialization: at least 20 credits

                            i.                Required courses for each unit: at least 12 credits for students specializing in gifted education should take and at least 10 credits for those who specialize in education for students with disabilities.

                          ii.                Elective courses for different specialization: at least 8 credits for students specializing in gifted education should take and at least 10 credits for those who specialize in education for students with disabilities.

Those who are in the Teacher Education Program for Preschool Special Education Teachers for Students with Disabilities would need at least 42 credits, including:

1.          Courses in education: at least 12 credits.

2.          Courses in special education: at least 30 credits

I.         Professional courses in special education (for all students in the program): at least 10 credits

II.        Professional courses in education for students with disabilities: at least 10 credits for required courses and 10 for elective courses.

All students from the Department of Special Education

Those who are in the Teacher Education Program for Secondary Special Education Teachers for Students with Disabilities would need at least 40 credits, including:

1.      Courses in education: at least 10 credits.

2.      Courses in special education: at least 30 credits

I.         Professional courses in special education (for all students in the program): at least 10 credit

II.        Professional courses in education for students with disabilities: at least 20 credits. (10 credits for required courses and 10 for elective courses)
